I would like to take this opportunity to give you
a reminder that now is a very good time to have a skin check done, just as
summer is beginning and many of you will have greater sun exposure over the
next few months.
As you will see from the information on my web page,
ultraviolet radiation from sun exposure is a major cause of skin cancer in
Australia. We have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and
very sadly melanoma, one of the most dangerous types of skin cancer, is quite
common, and is one of the deadliest cancers in the country. It the second
biggest killer of young people in Australia (only below accidents and
emergency), and kills more young people than any other cancer.
