Summer is Coming

I would like to take this opportunity to give you a reminder that now is a very good time to have a skin check done, just as summer is beginning and many of you will have greater sun exposure over the next few months.

As you will see from the information on my web page, ultraviolet radiation from sun exposure is a major cause of skin cancer in Australia. We have one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, and very sadly melanoma, one of the most dangerous types of skin cancer, is quite common, and is one of the deadliest cancers in the country. It the second biggest killer of young people in Australia (only below accidents and emergency), and kills more young people than any other cancer.

As you might be highly exposed to sun over the summer months it is very important to check whether you have any pre-cancerous lesions that might be aggravated during this period, or new ones that might develop.

Of course it is very important that you have regular skin checks over the whole year, but this is an especially critical time.

So please, take your skin health very seriously, and come into Auspoint where you will be examined by experienced doctors who are specialised in the detection and treatment of skin cancers.

I would like to let you know that I was once again chosen by the HealthCert Medical Education program, accredited by the University of Queensland, to be a surgical demonstrator for their latest skin cancer surgery training course for General Practitioners. This was held in the Perth Convention Centre in November, and I was selected because of my expertise in this area.
